Married late husband William Philips at St Mary, Bedford 10 Feb 1813. He was then a fifier in the Bedfordshire Militia. Two children by him – Ambrose aged 9 last February and Susanna aged 5 years last February. Husband died 29 Aug 1818 in St Cuthbert and was buried in the burial ground of the Old Meeting. On 24 may 1816 he enlisted in the 65th Regiment of Foot as a drummer and continued in that regiment to the time of his death. His father Ambrose Philips belonged to Flitwick and was buried at the expense of the parish of Flitwick. She went to the Overssers of that parish at his death and they gave her two pounds to pay expenses. Her husband had been to work with Mr Tew, St Cuthberts, Bedford when he was about 14 years of age for about 2 years during which time he was a regular fifer in the Bedfordshire Volunteers. He told me he received weekly wages, his friends boarded and lodged him. When the Volunteers disbanded he volunteered into the local Militia 65th Regiment of Foot. He returned to Bedford with a sick furlough 24 Feb 1818 and from that time until his death received relief from the House of Industry forhis family. He received 4s a week and from his death she has received 2s until her daughter was 3 years old and 1/6 since.
