    About 43 years of age. Born in Stevington, Bedford where his father Jeffery Mackaness resided and belonged. When about 15 years of age let himself to William Davis, a farmer in Turvey for a year, about a fortnight before Michaelmas ad went into his service a day after Michaelmas and continued until the following Michaelmas, his business was look after sheep, go to plough & do any other work. His wages were 50 shillings and he received the whole of that on quitting. Returned to his father at Stevington who taught him his trade of carpenter. Left Stevington again when he was about 20 and has ever since worked as a journeyman carpenter at Bedford. About Michaelmas 1800 he was married at St mary, Bedford to his wife Elizabeth by whom he has two children living Elizabeth aged 16 and Sarah aged 14.
