- Scope and ContentSamuel Stonbridge of Houghton Conquest, carpenter - about 1am on May 1 was alarmed by a noise in his house. He looked out of the window, said "come out", and a man came out of the window of the room underneath. He saw the man's dress clearly in the bright moonlight, which is the same dress Fells is now wearing except the shoes. He "shuck" at him with the muzzle of a gun but did not hit him. He ran away, leaving a pair of shoes and a [??] outside. A bundle of articles belonging to him were laid together in a green baize tablecloth - a shawl, a tablecloth, 3 aprons, 2 shirts, 4 towels, 7 pairs stockings, 1 pair shoes and 1 silk handkerchief. In the afternoon he was in the Chequers Public House and Fells came in without any shoes. He knew him immediately. William Fells - "if the man is sure it is me that's plenty - let him swear to me if he likes".
