- Scope and ContentAbout 23 years of age. Born at St Paul, Bedford where his father John Barnes resided. When he was about 15 he put himself apprentice to his Uncle Edward Harrison of Ampthill, shoemaker until he was 21. He served about three years of his apprenticeship with his Uncle at Ampthill lodging and boarding with him. He then left his Uncle without his consent and enlisted in the Army where he continued til about Nov 1818 when the regiment being broken up he was discharged. He has since worked in London as a journeyman shoemaker.
