- Scope and ContentAbout 22 years of age. Born at St Paul, Bedford where his father Thomas resided and belonged. When he was 14 he was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of the Harpur’s Charity by Indenture dated 7 Oct 1811 to Robert Ambler of Hitchin, Hertford, shoemaker for seven years. When he had served two years with his Master his Master went out of his mind, left Hitchin for Yorkshire and died there. Examinant then came to Bedford and has ever since worked as a journeyman on his own account.
