- Scope and Content20 years of age. Born at Oakley where his father Thomas Gilbert then resided but belonged to Clapham. On 15 June 1810 he was put out apprentice by the Trustees of the Clapham Charity by Indenture to Thomas Cooke of St Cuthbert, shoemaker for seven years. He served four years and a half when his master not having work for him he left him and has worked as a labourer ever since without having done any other act to gain a settlement. Not signed or dated.
