- Scope and ContentRebecca Row: saw in Dunstable with her husband. Her cloak and shawl were underneath the seat of the cart. On stopping at the King Arms public house, they discovered them gone. They were told a man had gone into the Railway Hotel with a bag in his hand. Mr Swift, the landlord, asked Henry Giddings to go into a room and ask if Smith had anything for sale. When Rebecca Smith went into the room, Smith was showing her cloak to Giddings. Her shawl was in Smith's bag. Henry Giddings: was advised by the landlord, Mr Swift, that they suspected Smith to have stolen items. Giddings agreed to ask Smith if he had anything for sale. Smith said yes, and showed him the cloak. Robert Darby: the prisoner and the goods were passed to him, but then he met Cornelius Sharpe, who took the prisoner and stolen items Cornelius Sharpe, police constable: Darby passed the prisoner into his charge. Smith asked why he had been locked up. The charges were explained and Smith said, that had he not been drunk, he would not have touched them.
