- Scope and ContentFrederick Higgs: the landlord of the Yorkshire Grey public house in Dunstable. He missed a work table, chair, small iron, brass candlestick and some other items from his house. On 8 December 1848 he went to Thomas Smith to ask him to make a waistcoat. Smith took him upstairs to 'Bill's room' where they discovered all the things he'd lost. Cornelius Sharpe: the missing table had previously been reported to him by Matilda Higgs, wife of Frederick. He was later approached by Higgs, who said his missing belongings had been seen at the apartment of William Murdock Stimpson. Stimpson told him that he had the table given to him by Matilda Higgs to mend and the other items were of no value. Sarah Smith: Stimpson rented a room at her husbands house. She saw him bring the table into the house. She had seen the other items in this room but was unaware that they were stolen. Matilda Higgs: claimed she never gave the table to Stimpson.
