- Scope and Contentcase originally involved two other defendants: William Langley & Thomas Peddar. Evidence in the depositions relates to all of the accused Charlotte Fane: received information that her hen house had been broken open. She identified 6 fowls to be missing. She could identify them to be hers by their markings. Some fowl and the feathers of others where returned. William Hillyard, police constable: having received information regarding the robbery, Hillyard went to the home of James Gore and foudn the fowls. Edward Scott, police constable: also visited the home of James Gore and found the presence of blood and feathers in his jacket pocket. He was also visited the home of Langley. Henry Butcher: victualler of the Swan public house in Flitwick. The defendants had been drinking in his public house prior to the theft. The Swan is 50 yards from Fane's farm.
