- Scope and ContentThomas Hackett: left his coat in a stable whilst working and on his return it had gone. He suspected John Small of taking the coat and followed him to the Anchor beerhouse, but said nothing. The following morning he returned with Charles Sibley, police constable, who now had the coat. William Smart: John Small sold the coat to William Smart, after negotition. He bought the coat as John Small claimed to be hungry. Charles Sibley, police constable: Thomas Hackett asked him to accompany him to the Anchor beerhouse to charge a man with stealing his coat. William Smart was in possession of the coat, having bought it from John Small.
