Richard coming from Ireland to Dieppe. ‘I cannot speak highly of this town. I think it will stink worse than Hastings, in the hot weather and the People squatting like Toads in every part of the Town to ease themselves must add to the Hogs’ likes House!

    Had to get Power of Attorney to sell remaining £15 Long Annuities to settle debts at Versailles – exceeded by £150 what expected. Can’t blame wife ‘too easily humbugged by the false accounts of the very cheap’. Living Abroad need £100 to balance account with Lafitte through Praeds - £200 should be a nest egg. ‘I sometimes, sigh when think of Hinwick’. (b) from Maria Orlebar to Caroline Orlebar Glad better news of Dick – feared for him ‘pulmonary affections are too fatal’. Sea; cheaper for children to get there; reference Diana would have been better to have followed Doctor Box and Sir Ashley (Probably Astley) Cooper’s advice and kept her at the sea. Disfigured throat then would have been avoided.
