- Scope and ContentTranscript of a letter from William Cawne to James Lightboun I have yr Lter of the 9th & 12th instant, but could not get a pticular of what Lands were sown till yesterday. There are 22 acres sowed wth wheat and Rye, and five acres laid down with clover in Musle field 7 the rest is laid up to be sown with barley at the proper season. As to the Inventiry, before we had made it perfect or indeed had put down all his effects He brought John Smith to be his security, so that we then went no farther towards finishing it, well knowing Smiths security to be undeniable. But what security Smith has taken from him I know not but if he does not take great care he will be a sufferer by him. As to Gurrys character, I believe he is very poor & that you had better let him leave the farm than continue yr tenant any longer. He intends as I am told to leave it if you are willing, being as he says himself not able to hold it. I suppose you will see him soon if he has not already been wth you. I have made enquiry about the Land tax which Gurry has pd to Michas last. If Gurry shd leave yr farm I believe I can help you to a good tenant
