Transcript of a letter from James Lightboun to William Cawne of Bedford My servant informs me that you promis’d to make Distress according to my desire upon Mr Gurreys farme for one Hundred and sixty pounds and informs me there will be more then sufficient to pay me tho hee sais most of his wheat and barley is Thrash’d out. When the goods are once seized and an inventory made and left at his House with proper Notice I think thare is no great dainger of anything being remov’d and thefore the takeing them of the premises is not nessecary and will greatly inhance the expence which I would not doe. It is most likely Mr Gurrey will come up to me and propose some secuerety but I can come into nothing of that kind unless hee brings your aprobacion thereof but if hee does come up I would not have you proceed to appraise or sell till you hear farther from me – which you shall doe by ye nest post. I understand that a feild cald Musel feild was fallow this year in which Mr Gurrey has 48 aceers. I should be glad to hear how much thereof hee has sowed with wheat and how much hee has laid down with clover which you will seafeyly learn from aney of the Neighbours or from Mr Edwards my former tenent. My servant tells me hee acquainted you with the flock upon the farm but that you did not make aney memorandum thereof. I have therefore on the other side enter’d down such things as hee remembers least your agents should over looke aney thing I take it for granted Mr Gurrey will not come out in a Condition to hold the farm aney longer and therefore should be glad to gear of a proper tenent - 1 Rick of Beans - 1 Stack ditto - Some unthreshed wheat in the Barn - some Barley ditto - almost a Barn full of un Thesh’d peas - wheat barley and peas in the Granerys - 2 stacks of Hay - 8 Horses - 6 Cows - 13 Hogs - 3 Carts - 1 wagon Plows Harrows Hurdles harness for His Horses with all sorts of impliments for Husbandry besides Household Goods
