Scope and Content
The description below is based on that in the RISM online database (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) and is used with permission.
Arrangements of sonatas, concertos, dances, and popular songs from the pleasure gardens of London, all for keyboard (likely harpsichord). In the hand of Philip Hart who taught Mary Orlebar in the mid-1740s (see account book OR2056). While most of the manuscript is in Hart's hand, folios 12r-15v feature engraved didactic material presumably produced by him for his pupils (the imprint on f. 15v reads ‘Engrav’d by Tho[mas] Atkins for Mr. Phil[lip] Hart.’). Folio 16r is copied by hand, and features didactic material concerning sharp and flat keys. Many fingerings are added to the repertory copied, as well as many different ornamentation symbols. Thanks to Andrew Woolley for confirming the identification of Philip Hart as scribe.
