  • Scope and Content
Apologies for not answering letters per various [named] ships. Sorry to inform him that Lattie's [Lavinia's] health has long been in a precarious state. Indeed her life has been despaired of since Christmas. As he had been a long time out of employment, was unable to procure attendance and comforts which illness requires. Have, therefore, procured her admittance to hospital of this town. Has been in a fortnight and is progressing favourably. Her present complaint – enlargement of spleen and dropsy. McCormack's Registry Office is closed and proprietor insolvent. It is reported here that Cobian had married a rich widow in Sydney. Have heard since that he sailed from Sydney and is at present in London. Obliged for kind offer in last letter but do not think he could dispose of anything to advantage, as there are large stocks on hand
