- TitleLetter from Frederick Martell, to his grandfather, John Perring Field
- Date free text5 Oct 1875
- Production dateFrom: 1875 To: 1875
- Scope and ContentIs pleased to receive letter by last mail – was beginning to wonder what he had written to offend them. Glad for good advice about intended marriage. Doesn't think he usually leaps before he looks. 'Don't think me egotistical' Has thought matter over and all will be well at Christmas and will be able to pay cash for everything. Intends to take care of himself. If ill, Department would allow rest until better on full allowance. As he belongs to Rechabites would have doctor's attendance and medicine and £1 per week. If he sees he can't do as well as anticipated then will postpone affair until can. Papa wishes him to 'settle down as he calls it' Heard fromUncle Octavius in the past month. 'He writes very hopefully, poor fellow'. He [Octavius] anticipates a salary of £250, aunt somewhat extra. Sent letter to Geelong and asked them to forward it to him. His bilet agrees first rate. Only wish that he [Granpapa] was here to have a drive with him over the ranges. If Grandpapa ( and Grandmama) comes out 'I will see you don't want'
