- Scope and ContentHas nothing to do at present and so feels lazy. He was to have the position of drawing master at Geelong but 'a young man of my acquaintance stepped in, applied for it, and as he had superior claims he obtained the appointment'. Superior claims were – some 2 years ago Government refused to pay for drawing and all present masters were thrown out of employment. Government promised that if at any time drawing was made free, those who were thrown out should have first appointment. As friend was one of those thrown out 'he got the billet'. As work can only be got through political influence, has made good use of friend Mr Garratt, M.P., and has obtained promise that he will obtain suitable employment this week. Papa seems to be getting on well with the school. Our own flock working very hard 'I am the only lazy one'. 6.pm. did not finish letter as expected to hear from Aunt Maggie. Charlie got a letter from Uncle Octavius this week and forwarded it to Aunt. Uncle John is here. All well. Will not be able to write this month. Has sent photo of Mama's school – built to hold 1000 – is a sample of the schools built by the Government for Victorias children
