Dear Miss Newman, A development has occurred which makes it necessary for me to change my plans of the tour which you have been arranging for me. It is now impossible for me to take the China trip and I shall have to cancel such arrangements as have been made for going to Hong Kong. This, I have no doubt, will simplify matters a great deal and we shall be glad if you can arrange for us to return from Sydney on the Arcadia, the passage for which was originally reserved for us. We were of course, in any case, going to pick up the Arcadia at Colombo but with the China part of our tour cancelled we shall come back from Sydney, if you arrange it for us, the date of which I think was February 19th. This sudden development only took place yesterday evening, too late to let you know, and I am ringing you this morning to give the earliest possible intimation and this letter is in confirmation.
