- Scope and ContentTo be buried in Northill churchyard, in the north part, not in usual family burial place; “to be carried on men’s shoulders and not in an hearse”; each of them to have a pair of gloves and a coarse hatband; no mourning to be given to family etc. Recites marriage settlement with Elizabeth (daughter of James Ingram of Barnet), by which manor of Finchampstead, Berkshire and lands not settled on wife are limited to trustees, to raise £2000 for younger sons and daughters; directs that said £2000 is to be divided among sons and daughters as follows: £5 to son James and son Roger, remainder to Jeremy, John, Edward, Thomas and Elizabeth. To wife chariot and pair of coach horses, jewels, and household goods and £1,000. To John Heaviside of Hatfield, 20 guineas. To William Fisher carpenter, son of late old servant Joseph Fisher, £20 “which I intended to give his father”. All real estate in Bedfordshire and Middlesex (not Berkshire and Wiltshire) and all personal estate to Heaviside and sons, Charles, Jeremy and John, in trust: (a) to pay debts; (b) to permit wife to receive rents during her lifetime; (c) then to be sold: £1,000 to son James, £300 to son Roger. Sons Jeremy, John and Thomas have received various sums “as part of their fortune” which sums are to be deducted from their share of profits of sale of real and personal estate. Witnesses: Henry Nettleship, Thomas Markham, Thomas Kidman.
