    depositions ex parte Button:- George Monoux of Wootton, aged 55, has lived there 20 years; Tilekill(ne) wood, about 50 acres, is fenced & ditched, and was inherited by Humphrey Monoux from his predecessors; within last 3 years he has cut underwood & used as fuel; & sold some to local inhabitants; John Woolhead of Wootton, bricklayer, aged 31, has always lived in Wootton; in the time of Humphrey's father Lewis Monoux, he helped fell the wood; & tithe- wood was set out for the lay rector; wood left unsold was faggotted & carried home for Lewis Monoux to burn. There are 3-4 other woods in Wootton. John Orton of Wootton, woodward, aged 46, has lived in Wootton 17 years; before 1634 for 4 years. Humphrey Monoux did set out tithe-wood when he felled. James Oliver of Wootton, husbandman., aged 60, has lived there 30 years; Humphrey Monoux felled underwood in 1634, 1635, 1636, & carried it home; he and his predecessors set out the tithe-wood. Richard Lowe of Wootton, aged 50, has always lived in Wootton; helped to fell wood in Lewis Monoux's time. John Hyde, labourer, 60, has lived in Wootton 24 years; other owners have set out tithe wood. 29 March 1638 Matthew Rumball of Wootton, yeoman, 35, has lived in Wootton 8 years; for 14 years he has been a servantt to Mr. Brasie, & knows Hoo & Hoo wood. Brasie's predecessor, Mr. Fountaine, for 7 years paid tithe on Hoo & Hoo wood to the vicar; & Mr. Brasie has paid it for the last 7 years. (burning other wood in his house ); 26 April 1638 (repeated 17 June 1639 before Mr Collyer). Martin Fountayne of Kempston, gent., has lived at Kempston last 7 years, previously at Wootton 12 years. He owned Hoo wood for 12 years; cut underwood 5 - 6 times; paid tithe-wood to vicar; used rest for firewood & hedging; for his other tithes he paid a yearly composition.15 Jan. & 26 Apr.1638 copy of prohibition.
