    Deed of covenant Parties: (i) William Pool of Stevington, baker; (ii) Daniel Hipwell of Bletsoe, miller; (iii) Anna Maria Halfhead of Bedford, widow and administratrix of the will William Halfhead of Bedford, corn factor, deceased (iv) Thomas Barton of Bedford, butcher Reciting: - Mortgage of 17 November 1824 in which (i) borrowed £1,000 from William Halfhead on security of all his copyhold premises amongst other hereditaments; - (i) surrendered his copyhold property to William Halfhead but William Halfhead was never admitted; - Mortgage of 25 June 1831 in which (i) borrowed £350 from William Halfhead; - the two sums of £1,000 and £350 were still owing together with an arrear of interest; - WL1000/1/Stev/2/8; - (i) did not surrender his copyhold premises to the use of (ii) and William Halfhead as laid out in WL1000/1/Stev/2/8; - (ii) and William Halfhead, with the assent of (i), agreed to sell (a)-(b) to (iv) for £430; - William Halfhead died in September 1836, (iii) proving his will in October 1836; - no surrender of (a)-(b) had yet been made to (iv); - £1,350 was still owing to (iii) along with arrears of interest amounting to £344/17/2; - it was agreed that the £430 purchase money should be paid to (iii) in part satisfaction of the mortgage debt of £1,694/17/2 Operative Part: - (iv) paid £430 to (iii) by direction of (ii); - (i) covenanted to surrender (a)-(b) to (iv) Property: (a) messuage opposite Stevington Cross with garden, orchard or sward adjoining of 2½ acres formerly in the occupation of Samuel Risely, then Thomas Barton, now Alexander Field bounded by the village street called Church Street SE, the road from Stevington to Harrold SW. property of Robert Bowyer, Jeremiah Sansom and George Hudson NW and property of Thomas Bunting, Cox, Richard Eaton and (b) on NE; (b) messuage with blacksmith’s shop attached in Church Street adjoining (a) with a large piece of garden adjoining and formerly in the occupation of William Aspley and Richard Eaton, now Thomas Simpson and Alexander Field Witnesses: - Ezra Eagles of Bedford, solicitor; - C. H. Hall of Bedford, clerk to Ezra Eagles
