Recites Marriage Settlement: Henry Barnardiston and Margaret Hawes. -- messuages in Northill then in the occupation of John Cooper, Jonas Affam, John Beale, John Palmer, Robert Manton, William Beale, -- Haggis; closes called Butcher’s fields (25 acres), Church field (38 acres),the ground lately disparked (120 acres), the pightle (14 acres), meadow (60 acres) in Northill, Over and Nether Caldecot; manor of Ickwell Bury; (except Further Lynnings, Lady field, Doctor’s pasture, Mary Slade, St. John’s piece, Bowell fields, Bowell hedgerows, Bowell Lane, cottage and land in the occupation of Robert Abbis, close in the occupation of Lewis Mordaunt (6 acres). Estate was entailed by John Barnardiston, grandfather of Robert. Hawes was “fearful whether the said entail might be cut off by a recovery or not”. Barnardiston wishing to suffer a recovery to provide for his younger children, Hawes offered to pay to younger sons within 2 years after Barnardiston’s death, £1200, which Barnardiston accepted.
