[John Boydell (1720-1804) of the Boydell Shakespeare Gallery, Pall Mall held a lottery to dispose of his assets in 1804, as he was nearly bankrupt. He died the same year. His business was carried on by his nephew, Josiah Boydell, until 1818. The lease of the gallery in Pall Mall was taken over by the British Institution for Promoting the Fine Arts Under the Patronage of His Majesty and re-opened in 1806 as the British Institution Gallery.]
