- Scope and ContentRefers to Evan Vaughan who practiced as an attorney in the west of England, but left the area after being found guilty of malpractice. He arrived in Worksop and 'leagued himself' with William Clarke. He contrived to get into the good graces of a foolish young widow at Retford and married her, having another wife living in London. On this marriage the partnership with Clarke was dissolved. He decamped from Retford to escape the law when his bigamy was discovered, and is now settled near Bath. Vaughan was the 'scoundrel' who got Eliza Rankin arrested last summer at Bath for a debt owed to Tinmothy Grafton.
