  • Scope and Content
Dear Mr Janes, I thank you for your letter. It was my duty to have written to you before but I was not certain what I should send to say to you. It is with very great regret that I have to say it will not be possible for us to have you to preach on Sunday evening 17th inst. Stewart Town is a small village. The Methodists and ourselves work together. When we have Special Services on the day, they close their Church in the evening and visa versa. Sunday next will be their Harvest Festival Services at 11am, 3pm and 7pm, consequently we Baptists cannot have an evening service. I am very sorry indeed. We do desire you to be good enough to visit our Schools and see some of the work we are doing, also to visit Westwood High School for Girls here in Stewart Town. Westwood was founded by the Baptists over 70 years ago with money contributed by Engish Baptists. We lost the school. It is now inter-demoninational but the Baptist Missionary Society is still interested and some of the Trustees are our English Baptist Friends. I was called to fill the postition of Chairman of the Board of Management last July. I would like to invite you to Stewart Town which is 6 1/2 miles from Brown's Town one day that is convenient to you next week whilst you are at Shaw Park. If you get here after lunch, I mean you and Mrs James also Mr and Mrs Nutt, I would arrange to take you to see some of my own Circuit work and arrange for you to visit Westwood and have tea with the Headmistress and Staff at 4pm. If you got here at about 2pm I would arrange for a taxi to take us around and save your car from the hills. May I ask you to select one of the following days - Monday 18th inst, or Wednesday 20th, or Friday 22nd inst. I shall be glad if you telegraph me your reply to Stewart Town tomorrow (Saturday, if possible) in order that I be able to plan for next week. Regretting the lateness of this letter. With kind regards, yours sincerely Ivan Parsons.
