- Scope and ContentDear Mr & Mrs Janes, It was only last evening I received word from Reverend Keith Tucker of Calabar that you were in the Island, and would be at the Chatham Hotel from 7th to 17th instant. I am, therefore, on behalf of Mrs Greaves, myself and the Churches I represent, writing to extend a very cordial welcome to our Island, and especially to St James. We hope your stary in the Island will be most happy, and that you will have no kind of unpleasant experience to mar your visit. When you return to your own dear land we trust that you will always have very happy recollections of this visit. I shall never forget the happy time I spend in Britain, and the memory of it is a source of great gratitude and much inspiration. I am extremely sorry that information about your visit has come so late. Tonight (Thursday) we expect to have a big Rally here, and I would have loved to have invited you to it. As you will be arriving in Montego Bay sometime today I don't think it would be kind asking you to attend, especially at night. Unfortunately I shall be leaving home early tomorrow morning, and will be away for the weekend, returning on Monday evening. If, however, it will be agreeable to you I will call on you next Tuesday all being well and take you to visit some of my Churches. You will then have an opportunity of seeing a little of the country. We would go first along the seacoast towards Lucea and see the Sandy Bay Church, then return here and go on to Shortwood, and then back to Montego Bay. If you are not already booked for that day will you kindly keep it open? Then, though I will be away again, will you be good enough to come to us here on Sunday 17th at 11am and give the message at our service? It may be possible to arrange conveyance for you as I will not be able to call for you myself. Again assuring you of our very great delight in having you here, and with our very kind regards and christian greetings. Yours sincerely, E H Greaves. P.S I am sorry that I had not observed that there were two other friends along with you. Please convey to them the same welcome as given to you above. EHG
