- Scope and ContentDear Herbert, Thanks for yours of December 18th. The elaboration of our proposed trip, as you suggest, by taking in Singapore & Dutch East Indies would make the outward journey more interesting, & I am quite agreeable to fall in with the idea. Freemantle, Perth & Adelaide would have to be cut out. Melbourne could wait until we got to Sydney, as there are special return trips advertised by rail, between these cities. I have seen Mr Boulton, the shipping agent, at Torquay this morning, who is making enquiries regarding cost & berths etc to Singapore via the P&O Line. The Orient Lines do not run to Singapore, & if we went to Colombo by them we should have to change boats twice, ie at Colombo & Singapore. The Rawalpindi 17000 tons, sails from Southampton on Saturday February 26th 1938 & is due at Singapore March 25th. We should have to tranship there to the Dutch Mail Line for Sydney. Am sorry that you have not fully decided to take the trip yet & trust that you will be able to do so shortly. 26th February will soon be here & the best berths will be filling up know. With best wishes to you all for a Happy Xmas yours sincerely Sam. PS trust Mary is progressing successfully.
