To clarify succession John Read is selling right to uncle: cottage in Maulden formerly called Red Lion; 2 closes adjacent, 4 acres abutting north on Bedford - Luton road (adjacent owners or occupiers: Duke of Bedford, late Lord Bruce; John Morris (late William Linford)); 3 cottages at Clophill (one formerly a barn, one lately built by Francis Read), occupied by Thomas Evans, William Hall, Christopher Cox, James Millard and Alice Stevens, widow; and 1 acre adjacent first cottage, abutting west on street; also allotments to Francis Read under award. Will of Robert Read of Maulden, gardener, 20 April 1769: dev. to wife Mary income from land in Maulden in Stockland and Ampthill Fields, and meadow in Harlington meadow and Sunder mead, Maulden; to 3 sons £5 each and daughter Mary £7; lands to be sold when Francis is 21, and proceeds divided.
