    Circular letter stating that the county club formed eight or nine years ago had to give up owing to lack of funds and that a provisional committee would hold a public meeting at the YMCA Hall on the corner of Silver Street and Harpur Street, Bedford, on 3 Nov 1899 to explain the project to establish a new club and elect a general committee: The provisional committee were: Guy Pym MP; R. W. Allen; T. H. Barnard; G. T. Fields Clarke; C. F. Farrar; C. E. Harenc; W. W. Marks; H. R. Orr; L. C. R. Thring and S. G. Wilkinson. A list of supporters comprises: The Lord Lieutenant (Earl Cowper); the High Sheriff (J. Harold Howard); the Duke of Bedford; Viscount Peel; Lord Alywnne Compton; Lord Ampthill; Lord Saint John; the Mayor of Bedford (George Wells); the Mayor of Luton (G. Warren); the Mayor of Dunstable (F. T. Garrett); W. H. Allen; F. Bassett; George Farrar; Colonel Josselyn; J. S. Philpotts; Doctor Poole; R. W. Rice (ex Gloucestershire); A. G.
