  • Title
Letter from W F A Fletcher to his uncle, Robert Ashby. Gives detailed account of the offer put forward by Barton. Mentions the depressed state of the financial market in 1921 ‘and the deplorable condition of trade resulting from the coal strike and the general slump’ and thinks ‘it is only a common-sense view that Collieries have a bad time ahead for a very considerable period, especially in the Cumberland coal-fields, and that the trade will be a long time in recovering from the effects of the coal strike.’ Requests that letter be shown to Herbert and sent to Uncle Fred.
