- Scope and ContentAppointing as trustees John Bagnall, Edward Sparhawke,Thomas Halfhide. - - - trustees to pay sister Elizabeth Cokayne £10 for mourning, and to brother Captain Samuel Cokayne 1/-. - - - property in Bedfordshire & Low Layton (Essex) to Judith daughter of Thomas Cokayne after payment of debts i.e. £4000 to son John Harvey (remainder of Bettrice Cokayne's portion) from sale of estate at Low Layton & Wrestlingworth, & remainder from Cokayne Hatley - - - Cokayne Hatley estate to descend to Judith, 'providing she marry one whose name shall be Cokayne'. - - - £50 to trustees. - - - yearly rents on all lands to be used to pay interest money on the mortgages. 'And that this may be no wonder to the world I here declare I only have been made a Sacrifice by my wife & the rest of my family' Proved 25 May 1732. (See V.C.H. II p.216: Richard...who died in 1731 having survived all his children...(Leaves 1/- to brother & estate to 2nd. cousin Judith)...Samuel Cokayne, as lineal representative, threatened litigation, but a compromise was effected in 1733, by which Judith in return for £1,000, [ £550 & bond for £450 more].(Cokayne Memoranda p.14.) gave up the estate to Samuel.
