Scope and Content
Bound 4to volume, in which have been stitched two letterbooks; at front, bookplate of John Hussey, esq.,
Marnhull, Dorset (no doubt a descendant of Sir Lewis Dyve's daughter, Grace, who married Geo. Hussey of Marnhull, 1622-77.)
The two books are of slightly different size; the first, 5 1/2 x 7 3/4'', containing 78 pp.; the second, 5 1/2 x 6 1/4'' containing more pages, of which 34 are written on.
During this period the King was at Newcastle, at Holmby House; with the army at Newmarket, Hatfield, Caversham, Latimers, Woburn, Stoke and Oatlands; and finally at Hampton Court. John Ashburnham joined
the King in late July, 1647.
The letters show that Dyve had considerable freedom, that he was well informed, and that communications
reached the King.
