  • Scope and Content
This Committee seems to have consisted of a group of ladies who decided to encourage the teaching of lace-making. There is no indication of a general meeting of a society. The names include: Margaret Ampthill, B.M. Barnard M.L. Campion, C.M. Alington, (?) Fitzpatrick, Faith Orlebar, Barbara Prothero, Constance Russell, Emily St. John, Miss Brooks, (?) Thornton, Hon. Mrs. Campbell, M. Mackenzie, Mrs. Chaundler, Mrs. John Howard, Miss Johnson. The quarterly accounts are usually fastened into the volume. Small payments were received from the classes; and a small grant from the County Council. Teachers were paid a maximum of 2s.6d. a lesson. There were 6 districts: Ampthill, Sandy, Cranfield, Clapham, Melchbourne, Bletsoe. The Committee stated its intention to work with the Bucks. & Beds. Association. For the end of the Committee, see report of Beds. C.C. Education Committee, 11 March 1930, where it is stated that the Board of education had originally approved the scheme experimentally, but that the results obtained do not warrant its continuation.
