    About 30 years ago he lived a yearly servant to Samuel Richards of Keysoe, farmer, and performed his whole year's service. About 27 years ago he hired himself to Thomas Best of Wilden, farmer, working from Michaelmas to the following May, but being ill of a fever he went home to Keysoe to be taken care of, with consent of his master, who after about 3 weeks sent to enquire regarding his health. After about 5 or 6 weeks he returned to Wilden without making any new bargain with his master, but at the end of the year Best mentioned ... would consider him for ...ickness) which Sheard considered reasonable, and allowed 5 or 6 shillings out of his wages. About 23 years ago, Joseph went with his brother John Sheard to Thurleigh where John held a farm of about £24 per annum, and continued there with his brother about 11 years as an assistant and relation but under no hiring. Elizabeth his wife, and children Jane, Hannah and Mary.
