- Scope and Contentin consideration of £1,000 paid and £4,000 to come; -- 1/3 of the barony of Bedford, with messuages, lands, rents, courts, etc.; a capital messuage in Cardington, 2 tofts, dovehouse, 2 gardens, 50 acres land, 80 acres meadow, 400 acres pasture, 300 acres wood; to hold as long as the above premises remain in the royal hands; (Recites that Sir William Fleetwood on 4 June 1594 became Receiver General of the Court of Wards & Liveries, and so continued many years, in which office he received large sums. On 23 December 1609 he was found to owe £11,021 5s.9d. On 13 Jan. 1610 Thomas Ansell, sheriff of Bedfordshire, by writ from the Court of Wards & Liveries, made an extent of the following:- 1/3 of the barony of Bedford; 40s. p.a.; 400 acre pasture, 300 acres wood, 50 acres land, 80 acres meadow, in Cardington, and a capital messuage; £18 p.a.; total £20 p.a.) slit for seal tag.
