- TitleAnnual report. Mixed School: The children are in very good order, and the old inertness and want of self reliance and intelligence, though still apparent, are not so conspicuous as they were. Sewing is only fair, and improvement is required in the recitation and arithmetic of the first class, in problems and in general intelligence; but the written exercises were very neat and accurate, and, in spite of the small staff, the Master has already done very creditable work in this School. Infants’ Class: Some further improvement desirable, especially in the spelling of the first class and the arithmetic of the lower classes, but on the whole the division is decidedly better than it was, and the children are more interested in their work, and therefore more diligent, obedient, attentive and orderly. Drill and recitation, though somewhat wanting in vigour, are good, and the songs are well sung, but the modulator exercises should improve. Includes notes on various Articles: one class subject should be taught (art. 86); the staff is not sufficient for a Grant (Art 105) and should be strengthened (Art 73). Attached: Circular letter from the Education department, Whitehall, stating that the Fee Grant should have been calculated on the basis of average attendance, and so will need to be re-calculated for the last year, 4 February 1893 Enclosed: Letter to Mr Lang from Ernest N Wix, of the Education Department Whitehall, congratulating him on the progress of the School and requesting a few revisions to the report and requesting some changes to premises and desks, 27 February 1893
