  • Scope and Content
[Written during a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon. ‘Mr. Ballance’ is likely Frederick Ballance, who had been the Sanders’ business manager for their grocery in Harrold.] ...We have arrived here quite safely, as you will see when you receive this letter. We seemed to have a very long journey; had to wait two and nearly three hours at Blisworth because we went by such an early train from Wellingboro. It was only about half past eleven when we started and the train was in Northampton station for Blisworth when we arrived there. We explored the village of Blisworth, but could not get any very nice refreshments. Mr. Ballance house seems so large. Mrs. Stanian has taken us all over it, and the shop[?] is awfully nice; he was at the station to meet us. We are going out for a little while now with Mrs. S. to explore a little bit. Mr. Ballance went to a grand ball last night, at one of his best customers who had just been married. Stratford seems a very large place and the Avon looks beautiful. We will write again tomorrow and tell you more. I do hope you will not miss us very much; you must have plenty of people to see you. With very very much love to you all and I can’t express how much for yourself From Your loving May
