  • Scope and Content
Written at Knotting Green [Knotting, Bedfordshire] [mourning paper]. ...We do indeed deeply sympathize with you in the sad bereavement you have sustained, knowing how very much you will feel the loss of one so dear to you, but as you say in your kind letter, received yesterday, for which I thank you very much, ‘how very distressing it was to witness your dear Mamma’s sufferings’ you could not wish her back again with you. What a comfort it is to know that all her sorrows are ended and she is for ever happy with the Lord she loved. Oh! that we all may join the loved ones gone before, where sorrow and parting are unknown. You have, dear Mrs. Sanders, had great trials, and I know this season of the year will bring very fresh to your mind the loss of your dear husband, but I trust you have been enabled to say ‘Thy will be done’, and I hope the Lord will strengthen and help you to bear this sad trial. He only can truly comfort those in sorrow. Mr. Lilley is very poorly indeed with a severe cold or we should have come to Harrold yesterday, and I should have called on you. With very much love and sympathy and kind regards from Mr. Lilley Believe me, dear Mrs. Sanders, Yours very sincerely, A. Lilley
