  • Scope and Content
Written at Littleton, ‘Wednesday’. ...I shall want to hear again from you shortly so hasten to reply. I often picture you and your dear little ones round the old familiar hearth and long to have a peep. Tho’ not many flock[?] down[?] at your coming still that is the same as of old except that one face is ‘down south’ as the negroes say. Well I trust you will return strong and well and that Mama has persuaded you not to allow that little creature to suck all yr. flesh away as I was fearing it would. I find Jethro is following my dear husband in enjoying his rides to Northampton. Well I trust all will turn out for his happiness. I quite want to see for myself. I am glad you like her. I wonder who Miss Minnie[?] will have now. Tell Jethro I quite expected him all this month as he said he should come at the usual time. I would rather contribute towards his expenses than not have him tho’ tell him marrying is quite out of the question if he is so poor. If Bachelors can’t travel I don’t know who can. I was surprised to hear you mention William; has he really made his appearance once more? I thought he never meant to sleep at O.L. [Orton Lodge, presumably] again. I hope nothing will turn you from coming in early Spring. Did you see one of my cuffs[?] in your little bedroom? It has a frill round the bottom. I have not seen it since I returned. It was one of my best. I have been getting[? poss. felting?] some Hyacinth Bulbs. I must have something pretty to look at. Accept lots of love and kisses to the dear chicks and love to Jethro your loving sis....
