    Written at Littleton [Reigate, Surrey], ‘Friday’. [Arrived at archive in envelope postmarked Reigate 29 October 1869.] ...I think when you write you might as well send a long letter. Still I was glad you were still pretty well. Hope you will take care. Frank has a cold but full of spirits. Annie’s[?] cold is better but has a troublesome cough; sends very kind love to you. We went up to Buckland yesterday, I driving. The cold was dreadful. Mrs. A’s baby is so well[?] and strong. Mr. A. returned from his trip Wednesday night. We arrived[?] and took tea with Mrs. Haws[?] and her sister on Monday. We are quite looking for snow. T.[?] Abbott[?] says it was thick on the ground when he was at Southampton. Annie has heard [?] from Mrs. Wiggins this morning. William is under the Dr.; she will feel anxious till she hears again. I must go and cook so accept fondest love from us. M. L. [Mary Lizzie] sends kisses to you and cousin Arthur and four for Uncle Hugh. Your loving sis.... You see it is tit for tat. Was your Hat[?] a present? I have had one each for the children. Blk.[?] velvet a little Scarlet and small white Feathers.
