  • Scope and Content
Technical literature was provided ‘for the information and convenience of Allen Area Offices, Representatives and Agents.’ Issued in binders the literature could be arranged to suit the needs of the user although a numerical order was recommended. New issues were to be filed and superseded publications removed on receipt of revised editions. For samples of complete binders see AQ6/2C. The literature included sales catalogues, reprints of articles and general brochures, most are well illustrated and contain technical details of products, many contain examples of where equipment has been installed. Technical literature issued by the company was originally referred to as catalogues. Mr Cecil Alsop came to the company at the invitation of Mr Harold Allen in order to develop the standard of the technical literature, sales promotion material and technical press information. In 1932 the term catalogues was dropped and the name ‘Allen Publications’ adopted. The publications used a systematic numbering and dating system developed by Mr Alsop. The system proved capable of expansion to cover new products and remained in use until at least 1986. (based on note from Mr Cecil Alsop in Bedfordshire & Luton Archives Service depositors file L36/AQ).
