Purchases in Sandy appear to have been begun by Lewis Monoux, brother of the 2nd. baronet, described first as of Gray's Inn and later of Sandy, esq. This branch of the family settled at Sandy, and purchases continued to be made by Lewis's son Humphrey. A fair proportion of the land had formely belonged to the Bromsall family, and some of this came to Humphrey by his marriage with Elizabeth, widow of Owen Thomas Bromsall, in 1743 (AD2655). The majority, however, was acquired by many small purchases, and frequent reference is made to the Bromsall trust deed for sale made in 1709 (F500) in consequence of which the property was divided up. Humphrey built Sandy Place, described in1762 as 'lately erected' (F635) and his son, Phillip, who succeeded to the baronetcy, in his will referred to the kitchen garden 'which hath since my marriage been much enlarged'. (F639)
