Describes conditions in Africa during the war, they are not deprived of anything, only the absence of young men reminds them of the war. Pleased to hear of safe arrival of John's baby. Sorry to hear John has been hurt again. Writer's son, Basil, has been lent to the Scots Greys as their surgeon had been killed. He is a captain now. Harrold was married last Wednesday but returns to the front very shortly.
