‘We understand that Mr Pope intends to secure the services of a manager, not being himself sufficiently conversant with the business he intends to enter into, to carry it on…we should like to know, in confidence, what amount of money Mr Pope intends to put in, or would be willing to put in, if he sees things going on satisfactorily. We understand that his Manager’s views with reference to the Yard are, that a successful business can be carried on, provided a sufficient amount of capital is forthcoming from the Proprietor…’
