‘I cannot argue with you that there is no ‘good will’ of value in the business of the late C J Pope. It is difficult to work the business at this distance, but I get very full reports of dealings &c & unless I get something substantial for good will I shall carry on the business in the interest of my sister. It has done very well, in fact a better summer trade than they have had for years. I shall be coming down soon, as I think of repairing the buildings at the wharf & want to see into matters generally & will then see you.’
