  • Scope and Content
‘…I am willing that you should offer the business premises &c to Ms Franklin at £4000 & we shall then see what he has to say. The Stock & machinery, carts, horses, used for trade purposes to be taken at valuation. I don’t see how Mr W Pope of Mr Chambers are to be controlled. Certainly I should not be bound to answer for them. I don’t however see how either of them are to start in business. The want of capital would prevent W Pope at any rate and age combined with want of capital and extreme caution would in my opinion prevent Mr Chambers from entering into business on his own account. I presume your client would be willing to let the mortgage remain on the wharf. If not I don’t think there would be any difficulty in finding some other person to lend the money. If business is likely to result & Chambers & W Pope are stumbling blocks you might approach them, but I should not do so at the present stage of the negotiations. The business is paying its way now at this slack season of the year, when no profit is looked for.’
