Scope and Content
Includes payments to inhabitants of almshouses (widows or old people), sometimes (e.g. 1762) by name; occasionally wider distribution (to 36 persons in 1763);
payments for rates, faggots, repairs, quit-rent to the Duke of Bedford (at least to 1809), gowns; a few detailed payments for thatching, e.g.:
1783 straw for thatching barn, 13s. 7½d. 4 bunches of thatching ropes, 1s. 4d. 2 bundles of thatching rods, 1s. thatcher, 13s. 7½d.
1766 10 bundles of reeds, 5s. thatching rods, 1s. straw for thatching 19s. thatcher's bill, £1 5s. 10d.
1790 14 bunches of reed for thatching
Also occasional notes on the death of an inhabitant of the almshouses, e.g. Ann Taylor, died 6p.m. on 24 January 1818, or on the election of a new entrant; Receipts for rent.
