- Scope and ContentReads- Miss Monoux' estate in Eversholt; she has about 130 acres; may be worth £200 per annum; house not very large; should command a good tenant; may be worth £60-80 per annum with garden. I should think this would be a purchase of £7,000-8,000. Lady Bridgewater & Lord Brownlow? but hardly think they would buy so near to Woburn as this of Miss M. Lindsell asks if Duke will concur in enclosure of Steppingley; he is to buy Greene's estate; Morris is willing; & Lindsell proposes, if Duke agrees, to get act next session; if amicable, expense not great;; proposes he & Davis should be country solicitors & Wing manage London part; 1 commissioner sufficient. Rector willing, & wd. take allotment in lieu of tithe. Duke's open field land is very small. Beard is an alarmist about poor law; little stability or discretion. I believe the Ampthill people have taken too much in hand at the first set-off; we have taken time to get officers thoroughly prepared, - Central Bd. gave us till 24 June; our plans; building of workho. The affair of Geary. School to be built at Cranfield.
