  • Scope and Content
Reads- Appreciate your kind & indulgent attention. Adey prevented from coming; laid up at St. Albans. Platt's death; composed & resigned; prolongation would only have meant suffering. Sam. Bennett says his wife has inherited money & he can take the farm; however qualified for Lidlington I don't think the son-in-law has edge enough for Beckerings Park, & without that I guess he wouldn't want to exchange. I fear Pickering has sunk too much capital at Riseley (which he will never see again) to enable him to take so large a concern as Lidlington. Bedford audit. Lord Ludlow giving up his Knotting farm. Lugsdin wants a farm of this sort for his son (I believe an improvement on the old man). Erroneous report of county election got into country papers; will do cause much mischief. I hear this morning the Luton & Dunstable dissenters, who did not hear the speech, are highly indignant. If this impression is not removed, we must print & circulate an authentic copy. No one who knows Lord Chas. will believe it, but misrepresentation should be contradicted. Standing as we do on the just principles of purity of election. Lidlington vicarage dilapidation.
