- Scope and ContentReads- Braithwaite told me you had written to him; he appears sore & talks big. I merely said his procrastination was cause of anything you said. Suppose when sub-commissioners [apparently poor law] are appointed we shall hear of them; hope Chenies won't be joined to other parishes - workhouse recently built & plenty of accommodation for parish. Woburn is more likely to be made a central place; if so, Duke should take present workhouse in exchange for site elsewhere for union house. Other possibilities for Ridgmont, Crawley, Lidlington, Steppingley. We must try to keep Duke's parishes together (if commissioners enter into our views). Other estate possibilities. Pickering of Riseley (Lord St. John's tenant) applied for Duke's help in sending out some emigrants; Lord St. John will pay half; I said send them off, though I could not get Duke's views at the moment. Gudgin at Cople Dog died Wednesday. No tenant for Ridgmont.
